Weddings & Events

We treasure the occasion to launch your ever-after from our beautiful Wynne Wood Grove

Return to our family’s ancestral stomping grounds.

Headquartering Wynnewood Grove events in this Athens area 10-acre gentleman’s farm on Main Street in Lexington brings our family full circle. With deep roots in these parts, my ancestors in America helped establish Colonial Virginia before settling in Wilkes and Oglethorpe County Georgia just after the American Revolution. Many generational relatives were married in area churches and later buried in historic grave yards in this and neighboring counties. However, long before the Civil War, my branch moved even further South and out into pioneer lands west of the Mississippi in what is now Arkansas.

Weddings and Events as a family business is thrilling passion the Wynne family shares

About the time Cardinal Hall was constructed in Georgia, my Arkansas grandfather moved his budding family into a similar turn-of-the-century spacious Colonial Revival structure in the heart of Fordyce, Arkansas where he became mayor. My grandfather’s home has been restored by my Aunt Agnes who for 40 years has hosted events and weddings at the Wynne-Phillips House.

“   There’s no pro, like and old pro. ”

With 40 years of experience in events, my sister, Martha Wynne Morgan as Director of Events brings her passion to Georgia at Wynnewood Grove. Martha and I were the youngest of 21 cousins and grew up in an enchanting family property in Dallas County Arkansas called Pine Shadows which along with Grandmother’s historic structure also served as a backdrop for many weddings and events in Arkansas. Our family helped host Arkansas native greats like Paul “Bear” Bryant who rose to become the beloved winningest coach in his time for Alabama’s Crismon Tide. Legendary Johnny Cash visited our hometown many times and his horse drawn carriage rode through our front gates at Pine Shadows before one of his memorable appearances in the Cotton Belt Parade on Main Street in the 1980s. Our mother, as Chamber of Commerce Director, hosted annual events on our property to celebrate the town’s Railroad Festival called Fordyce on the Cotton Belt. Future President Bill Clinton was guest on our front porch as he canvased support in his original run for Arkansas Governor visiting the community on the day Johnny and June Carter Cash were in town for a Spring Concert at the nearby Wildcat football field.

"Unwittingly I suppose I returned to the land of my earliest Georgia bloodline, as I became the new owner of a modest pecan grove and the grand home on the western edge of the tiniest town I’d ever imagined living in. "
